Our story

How Shield LA began

In early 2020 when the COVID-19 outbreak forced many states and countries to shelter in place, Shield LA founder Patricio Guerrero was searching for a way to help combat the public health crisis. Learning of personal protective equipment shortages (PPE) frontline workers were faced with, he recognized a huge opportunity to put his skills to work.

A mechanical engineer by trade, he joined forces with several friends and began experimenting with face shield designs. After operating as a donation-based collective and donating thousands of shields to hospitals, the team formed a public benefit corporation to scale Shield LA's ability to deliver PPE to the people who need it most.

Helping those, helping others

Shield LA's mission is to deliver creative solutions to challenging problems facing healthcare professionals and everyday non-medical heroes.

As we continue to serve hospitals, business owners and non-medical workers, we have established three guiding principles to ensure we provide adequate access to quality PPE during the public health crisis and beyond.

  • Reliability
  • Approachability
  • Transparency
